[#88] Embedding Nature in Walls & Smoothing curves and bevels

Evening People!

Hope you had a good week, stuff is ramping up again on my end at work so it's becoming interesting balancing my energy again, that being said though this week felt really satisfying when it came to personal work, I've been working on trying different natural elements and moving away from the the more dull polygon fracture look that I had going before.

But more on that in the next section.


Cleaning up the language between clean and detailed

First thing that I did was testing to get rid of the dull Geometric shapes that I had filling the middle sections on all the walls. The reason why I had these here was to create a really nice contrast between the clean/sterile looking panels and offset that with details in the middle exposed sections.

Doing this will also create a nice link to the natural materials that are occurring in this region and can be swapped out on the fly.


Material and Parallax test

So next thing that I tried was creating the Parallax material, but more on that can be found in another blog (Blog [#52] - Template update & Parallax Materials) the first material is from Substance Source and worked really nicely when plugging this into the setup, and the second more dark screenshot is from the moss that I made myself.


Edges too thick

Another small test that I did was changing the width of the some of the panels to make the edges less thick as you can see in wall section on the left of the pillar. But I decided that this was not going to work if you are looking at them from a longer distance as the edge will fade out pretty quick, so I decided to keep the more bulky edges.

I know it might not be an environment but it's good to switch it up every knce and a while.

I've been a really big fan of this little piece by Maria Panfilova for a while now, especially the all the different kinds of contrast going on in the image. The first one is the contrast of shapes where the big shape (the dragon) is lying down and the smaller shape (The mouse) the second being the contrast in the colours being used, where the dragon being devoid of mostly all colours and the mouse having a little more color in comparison and the last contrast being the shape language on the dragon shape being more spiky whereas the mouse is more rounded.

I just really love the colours being used and how the dragon is portrayed in a way that makes it look really gentle, calm and somewhat protective, which is further emphasised by the tree that create a protective bubble. Really amazing job on this one Maria Panfilova.
