This week was a weird one, the first one where we remained on full lockdown only, and it's weird not going out, except for in our courtyard and near the water to feed the duckies! So it's pretty weird to only hear about what's going on outside of your little bubble, but other then that the initial chaos seems to be waning and it seems to be settling down a little, which is good, because we might be in this for a while. The biggest change is still finding my own routine and bridging the gap between professional and personal work, but I've found more and more time to start focusing some more on my personal health which was something that I never really made the time for with a commute of two hours a day, so it has it's good sides as well!
What was the biggest impact on your routine?
Website name brainstorming
This is such a difficult thing! I've been thinking about this on and off for a while but I can't seem to find a good option here, the current thought is something like "Environment Art Collective" which is a bit too long, and also might be a bit too restrictive for the future if I want to expand the scope of the platform at all. So yeah, if you got some suggestions, all suggestions are welcome!
Dynamic filters for blogs
More improvements to the website! I wanted a way to integrate a filtering system s you can more easily find what you are looking for, it was interesting to find some good filters and stick to added one filter to each blog. This also makes me realise how packed and maybe even disorganized the blogs themself are? As all of them go over so many topics in one condensed format, so I tried to generalize and focus on the weekly tip, which is the main attraction for people.
Link database for resources
The last thing I added this week is the start of an expansive and curated list that focuses on all the best resources for topics, which is also why I added the filters in the first place, and to add into this I found a good way to automate a large part of this process going forward, saving me a LOT of time! Now it's just a matter of time of curated the links that I already had and merging them into the website format, exciting stuff! Can't wait to share more on this and I hope that people are going to find this really useful.
Makin' stuff look good
Found this channel a bit back and they have some good dives into the more technical aspects of video game creation, too bad they don't seem to be active anymore though, but still a good little resource!
The Witcher 3 - The teamwork behind the Environment Art
This was an interesting look into the development of the Witcher expansion, especially because it focused on the teamwork aspect in Environment art
The Making of Modern Warfare's 'All Ghillied Up'
An interesting dive into the creation of all the different designs that got implemented to make Scenes like this stand out, haven't played the game myself, but that doesn't matter for this one!
Brought to you by my lovely Patrons we have the work of Dom Brookes this week, bringing a nicely composed scene to life.
It's a really nice little scene that makes great use of small color contrasts between elements, most of the scene is this nice subtle blue color giving it this really cool feeling, like something happened here, it doesn't really feel inviting. Even the orange, which is the nice contrasting color in this scene which normally should feel warm doesn't really feel like it at the moment. This in combination with the wooden walkways nicely leading you towards the church. And in this one the more cinematic aspect of the frame itself adds to the feeling of discomfort in this scene, giving it a nice eerie vibe!
Great job Dom Brookes, thanks putting your art out there and inspiring others!
All right people! That's going to do it for me for this week, I'll catch you in the next one!
If you already support my work, I cannot thank you enough because you are a major force behind the work that I make, if you wish to join these other people supporting me, you can do so on: https://patreon.com/TimothyDries.
